On this episode of 90210MG, Tori Spelling, Jennie Garth, and Sisanie Villaclara break down a “major episode in the history of 90210,” episode 10, “Isn’t It Romantic?” Things between Brenda and Dylan are heating up, and the themes of the episode kick off conversations about sex education, raising teenage girls (and boys), what in the world “spermicide” is and how you use it, why Jennie and Tori made movies of the week instead of taking vacations, the double standards at the Walsh house, AIDS and other STDs, Ian Ziering’s “cute little tushy,” Brenda and Dylan’s incredible chemistry, and the “red dress incident” that was Jennie and Tori’s only time clashing on set.
Sisanie says she had sex ed in sixth grade, not high school, but fortunately she “watched a lot of 90210, so I learned everything I needed to know!” she laughs. Jennie never got “the talk” herself because she would always wave her mom away in embarrassment, but now the shoe’s on the other foot; when she tries to talk to her own teenage girls, “they just laugh at me!” Tori’s parents got her a book when she was only 7, but “it was from the ‘70s….and I was fascinated by the saggy boobs and the big bush and I totally missed the point,” Tori laughs. She even brought it to school with her to show her friends and got in trouble. “You were bringing pornographic material to school in second grade!” Jennie marvels.
A fan email asking about Jennie’s true relationship with Shannen Doherty makes them remember the red dress incident. They swear that all three of them hung out together and had great times, but that sometimes Jennie and Shannen would butt heads because they're both “strong-minded Aries women.” But the battle that still gets talked about today was between Jennie and Tori, “and we never fight!” One day, the cast was doing a photoshoot, and they were all supposed to pick different color clothes. But all three of them selected a red dress. Shannen swapped hers for a black dress, but Jennie and Tori wouldn’t budge. The boys in the cast just added fuel to the fire – even 30 years later, the boys can get them upset about it all over again. “I’m getting riled up right now!” Tori jokes.
