Silly 'Scrubs' Gags & Sibling Rivalry On 'Fake Doctors, Real Friends'

Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence joins Zach Braff and Donald Faison on this episode of Fake Doctors, Real Friendsto laugh about all the ridiculously great jokes in the Scrubs season three episode “My Choosiest Choice of All.” This one’s a silly one, full of gags like Carla and Turk always having their arms interlocked, the Janitor becoming a security guard, someone stealing organs from the hospital, JD making out with a cigarette, and Elliott and Sean playing hide-and-seek all over the place. “Very stoner episode,” Zach says, and Donald agrees that it’s absolutely perfect – and who would know better than Donald?

Donald finally opens the limited edition sneakers Zach spent weeks hunting down and authenticating – but maybe Donald already has these? Bill’s son Henry is a sneakerhead too, and Zach remembers picking out a pair to wear that would really impress him; as soon as he walked in, Henry told him, “That’s the lamest version of those.” Bill replies, “I didn’t think I could love him more, but I do now!” He gets it though; his oldest son refuses to watch Scrubs, even as he binge-watches The Office, Parks and Recreation, and other contemporaries. “They got sucked into Ted Lasso because it was about sports,” he says – otherwise, they probably wouldn’t watch that either!

All their favorite lines and moments from the episode are recounted until they talk with Toshlyn from Australia, who asks about their real-life friendship. Zach says, “We couldn't have come from more different backgrounds, but the exact same things make us laugh.” Plus, it was basically their job for ten years to hang out with their best friend and be silly together. Donald says that made the bond stronger: “It came from such a happy place. Our friendship started with laughter.” Tosh asks for advice about her two sons who fight all the time, but it just sends them both down memory lane when they would fight with their own siblings. Donald still has the scars; Zach remembers his older brothers pitting him and sister against each other, like two fight managers ringside at a boxing match. “This might be the first time we’ve been stumped,” Zach marvels.
