Taylor Swift showed her support for the movement to make Juneteenth a national holiday on Friday (June 19). In addition to publicly showing her support for the movement, she decided to take action with her own employees, as well. In a series of social media messages, Taylor informed her followers she'd given her employees the day off to commemorate this important day in history.
Taylor took to Twitter to wish her followers a happy Juneteenth. She also shared an article from The Root, which contains a video explaining the "significance of today, June 19th, and why it should be celebrated as a National holiday."
Not only is Taylor giving her employees the day off in 2020, she shared she will continue to give them this day off annually, as well. "Personally, I’ve made the decision to give all of my employees June 19th off in honor of Freedom Day from now on, and to continue to educate myself on the history that brought us to this present moment," she wrote.
"For my family, everything that has transpired recently gives us an opportunity to reflect, listen, and reprogram any part of our lives that hasn’t been loudly and ferociously anti-racist, and to never let privilege lie dormant when it could be used to stand up for what’s right," Taylor continued.
Taylor has also shown support for the removal of statues recognizing racist historical figures in Tennessee, as well as the Black Lives Matter movement and the nationwide protests against police brutality in the wake of George Floyd's death.
